4. Types Of Music Videos

There are three main types of video used when looking at music videos, these include;
Performance Video

A performance video is where the band or artist perform the song and the main focus is on their performance rather than other aspects. This could basically be the band/artist just performing in a location. An example of this is a live performance. A performance video is used to allow the demographic to feel like they're part of the performance and what's going on so is particularly used in genres such as rock where people enjoy being part of the atmosphere and the sole attention is on the music.

Concept Video

This is where the video tells a story by the video. In some cases it has no correlation to the lyrics of the song and is just used to allow the audience to visually see/remember the song as they are likely to remember the video, leading to the song being remembered, despite their being no correlation.

Narrative Video

This is where you the lyrics are used in the video, for example, the lyrics create a story or the video relates to the lyrics, so people can evidently see what the songs about. Another example is when the lyrics are actually visually seen in the video in some way or another.
